I must always remember that God is not only holy, He is meticulous. David expressed this when he said, “As for God, his way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30, NIV). Then he followed with the necessary corollary, “God … makes my way perfect” (v. 32, NIV, italics added).
When God looks at me, He determines my perfection. I am not speaking of moral perfection here; that is another matter. God determines me for a specific role (of which I may not be aware) in His Kingdom, and He relentlessly moves me forward until He reaches the place where I am perfectly placed for Him. Since I may not know where that place is, I may be in utter darkness as to what He is about. My life may appear to be a series of meaningless circles or zigs and zags, as if only the wind were in control. Never mind! God slowly draws us to His goal, His zenith, where the perfection will be just as complete here as up there.
When I finally reach my goal and look back, I will be amazed to discover what inconsequential, minute, and extraneous things God used to bring me on my way. The things that irritated me no end, that caused tedious delays, that provoked me to temper and irritability, were the very things that became my best teachers. The Bible shows that God used such things as a king’s indigestion, a captain’s deep sleep, a baby’s hungry cry, a barefaced lie, a dream, and a shepherd’s stick to bring about amazing events. Who am I to deny God any trivial accident, turn of events, or occurrence in my life today? The very trivia of my life are being used by God to bring me to perfection!
Before such a God I can only bow with David and say, “God! — perfect is His way [with me]!” (Psalm 18:30, Berkeley).
“What does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him …?” (Deuteronomy 10:12).
